Your Zakat
literally REBUILDS lives

OUR LIFE-CHANGING ZAKAT PROJECTS

What is Zakat?

How Zakat is paid and administered by us?

Zakat payments must be dealt with very carefully and separately from normal sadaqah donations as according to proper religious rules. We take this issue very seriously. Please inform us beforehand when paying Zakat both with a reference “Zakat” on the bank or fundraising payment as well as please contact any of our volunteers to give us verbal authorisation of the following.

“I hereby authorise you and your representatives, and if needs be for you to authorise others in turn, to pay Zakat on my behalf (what’s maybe a little extra as caution is as Sadaqah)

I also authorise you to change the currency if required and use other money (or goods) in fulfilling the Zakat obligation on my behalf”.

We assume that all zakat donations received will be treated with the above authorisation from all donors.

We endeavour to fulfill this requirement according to all 4 major schools of thought, where possible.

Therefore as per some Madhab (Schools) we may deliver the zakat in the form of goods to the deserving recipients.

Your Zakat (depending on the amount) maybe wholly paid to 1 or a few deserving recipients as opposed to be split among many recipients to ensure the obligation is carried our fully and properly.

Out of caution, they may then go onto distribute under our supervision to other deserving individuals.

Recipients of Zakah

For all types of Zakah, the intention is obligatory upon setting one’s Zakah aside from ones own money.

Zakah must be paid to the Muslims among the eight categories of people deserving  who are usually in the place where the wealth is located. Unless the people deserving are not there or the need is greater in other areas, then it is sent elsewhere.

The eight categories deserving of Zakah as mentioned in the Quran are:

1. Those who are very poor who earn less than half their basic needs(al-fuqara’);

2. Those who are poor who earn half but less than all their basic needs (al-masakin);

3. The Zakah workers who are assigned by the rightful Caliph (al-^amilun ^alayha);

4. The new converts to Islam whose hearts are to be reconciled (al -mu’allafatu qulubuhum);

5. The slaves who are short in satisfying their contract for purchasing their freedom from their owners (ar-riqab);

6. Those who are unable to pay their debts and the debts are due now (al-gharimun);

7. The volunteers (fi sabilillah);

8. The travellers who do not have enough to enable them to reach their destination (ibn-us-sabil).

It is neither permissible nor valid to pay Zakah to other than those eight types of categories specifically mentioned; that is why it is not valid to pay Zakah for every charitable project. It is also not permissible to pay descendants of the family of the blessed Prophet ﷺ (sallalahu alayhi salam).
