Comoros Islands
Background:
Home to about 850,000 people, the Comoros face widespread poverty, with over 40% living below the national poverty line.
Most Comorians depend on subsistence farming, fishing, and remittances, but geographic isolation and political instability hinder economic growth.
Educational access is limited, with only 56% of students completing primary school and low literacy rates, especially among women and rural communities. Poor infrastructure, insufficient teacher training, and cultural barriers, like early marriage, contribute to the challenges.
The cycle of poverty and limited education reinforces inequality, requiring targeted efforts to improve schools, infrastructure, and sustainable livelihoods to empower the population.

Our Work and Aims:
One World Relief is proud to support a school in the Comoros Islands, helping to break the cycle of poverty through education. In a region where access to quality education is limited, our efforts focus on providing essential resources, improving school infrastructure, and supporting teacher training. By empowering children with the tools they need to succeed, we aim to create lasting opportunities for the next generation. Together we are building a brighter future for the Comorian community, one student at a time.

Parent of a primary school aged child : “ We intended to send our only daughter to some distant relatives abroad, so that she could access education. Since she has been sponsored and helped by One World Relief, we have decided to keep her here with us in the Comoros, as the education she is now receiving is outstanding in my opinion”
Parent of a preschool child “My daughter enjoys school so much that she does not want to stay home at weekends and holidays. One World Relief trains teachers to adopt a Caring Pedagogy that has had many benefits for my child”
Headteacher “One World Relief has enabled us to bring extra resources to children and has helped us enhance our provision. We are very grateful for their help”
